No No for Edison Tours in Taiwan

Weather was good while we were there. (1/1/2007) Stay at Howard Plaza Hotel in a suite. Reasonable price for a family of four. King size bed is gigantic. Kids slept on queen size sofa bed in the lounge room. Breakfast was good. The only complaint was the noise that they made at 3:00 a.m. evey day. Sound like they were spraying paint on ceiling as the hotel was undergoing some sort of renovations. The only available tour company that we could book day tours from was Edison tours, from the hotel. Not recommended. They would have Japanese, Chinese, English speaking Westener tourists on board and one tour guide who could supposely speak 3 languages trying to guide everyone. Needless to say, most of the time just announcing where we were. Not much else. Not sure about their spoken Japanese, but their spoken English was so bad that it was painful to listen to. We all gave up and felt that it was a big rip off. Overall Taipei is a nice place to visit. Subway is easy. Food is nice and people are friendly and honest. Will go back one day.

No No for Edison Tours in Taiwan

Thank you for your review, Dana88. Very important information for anyone considering Edison!

I%26#39;ll be Taiwan next month and I already reserved tours w/ Edison...but I haven%26#39;t sent them my credit card information yet. The Taipei Economic %26amp; Cultural Office in NY recommended me this company...but after your review I%26#39;m having second thoughts. Is there any other company that you would recommend instead?

Hi hi, does anyone know of a good local tour company for day tours out of Taipei and/or half day city tours? If I don%26#39;t remember wrongly, Edison charges NT$900 for a 3 hour city tour which I consider overpriced.

Thanks!

THE Taipei city tours day and night are mostly reachable by the MRT on your own.

Most signs are in English and the Tourist maps from the MRT Info counter are great.

Many tours companies all have the same route and if one company has too few passengers, they send you with one of the other companies. I remember someone telling me of such an arrangemnt.

Although the price as Edison, I took tours from Have Fun Travel and had good English-speaking tour guides. Should you not want to tour on your own, this is one other option:

Baron45,

Your suggested guide is useful. Thks!
