3 weeks in Taiwan!!

3May, stay in Tainan instead of journeying back to chia yi.

Suggest you spend at least 2 days in Kenting.

from Taitung go straight to Hualien (only about 2-3 hrs by train).

3 weeks in Taiwan!!

thanks for the tip! Will relook @ my plan... anyway, i realised that i forgot about Lu Dao! I%26#39;m going there from Taitung, heard there%26#39;s a ferry there to Lu Dao.

Hi! Here%26#39;s my revised itinerary.. any tips on getting around? I seemed to have squashed most of the travelling to within one week (one place a day).. Any idea if it works/ too rush?? All pointers welcome!! Thanks in advance! ;P

mine, I have vertigo just looking at your itin, too many places, too little time in one place.and why do u track all the way back to kaoshiung-taipei from Taidung when it is just a couple of hours from Hualien? Would suggest you forgo Taichung and Chiayi so you could have more time spend in Tainan.

I was thinking excatly the same thing, your itenary involves way too much backtracking. Now I am sure you have valid reasons for doing this; maybe you want to take a break in Taipei before embarking on another adventure in rural Taiwan, but you are wasting a lot of time just on transportation.

Try to plan your trip in a counter-clockwise fashion to reduce backtracking. In your case, your itenary should look as follows:

Taipei - Taichung - Chiayi - Alishan - Tainan - Kaohsiung - Kenting - Taitung - Green island - Hualien - Yilan - Taipei.

thanks for the advice!!

mariatan: wanna to backtrack from kao hsiung to taipei coz wanted to try the gao tie (high speed train) and break the rural areas into two visit. But then relooking the schedule, seems better to make one big round rather than two rounds (1) taipei - kao hsiung - taipei (2) taipei - hualian - yilan - taipei.

pcheng: wanted to visit all the rural areas at once with the new itinerary so can save my shopping (taipei) for the end. Thinking of leaving luggage @ taipei and having a backpack during the rural areas, will be more convenient esp when i need to go up alishan, green island, etc.

really thanks for the tips, i was having a hard time planning this coz i%26#39;m having the case of information overload!!

btw, any idea if i can get all the train tixs from the taipei train station or do i get them along the way? i know that the alishan xiao huo che needs to get from taipei and collect from chia yi.. other than that i%26#39;m just checking from the web for info.

For the western coast of Taiwan, I wouldn%26#39;t bother getting train tickets in advance. Considering that most of your train rides will be short hops between cities, you are probably better off just taking whatever train comes next. If you buy the tickets in advance, it will only take away your flexibility because you are locked into that specific train.

For the eastern coast (Kaohsiung - Taitung - Hualien - Yilan - Taipei), it may be advisable to get the tickets in advance because the trains run less frequently, not to mention the new Taroko train seats sell out fast.

hi there.. have taken your feedback and removed Chia Yi and extended Alishan and Green Island so that its not so touch-and-go.. free and easy itinerary should not look like a package tour itinerary!! XD

Mon, 27Apr: Sgp -%26gt; Taipei

Wed, 29Apr: Taipei -%26gt; Taichung

Fri, 1May: Taichung -%26gt; ChiaYi -%26gt; Alishan

Sun, 3May: Alishan -%26gt; ChiaYi -%26gt; Tainan

Mon, 4May: Tainan -%26gt; Kao Hsiung -%26gt; Kenting

Tue, 5May: Kenting -%26gt; Taitung

Wed, 6May: Taitung -%26gt; Lu Dao

Fri, 8May: Lu Dao -%26gt; Taitung -%26gt; Hua Lien

Sat, 9May: Hua Lien (Taroko Gorge) -%26gt; Yi Lan

Sun, 10May: Yi Lan -%26gt; Taipei

Thur, 14May: Taipei -%26gt; Sgp

1) Wat do you think? Better?

2) Also, is Sun Moon Lake closer to Taichung or to Alishan? Coz seems like a lot of Alishan minsu offer tours to SML. And (pardon me if this is stupid Q) can one go from SML to Alishan?

3) Lastly, would it be better to have Taichung as the last destination before going back to Taipei instead of the first? I heard that it%26#39;s better to go Alishan on wkdays instead of weekends. If I do that, I may consider day trip or cancel YiLan altogether?

Thanks so much for all the advice!!
