On the day you arrive, need not eat at airport. The journey from airport to city is, I think an hour or less. If you stay at XMD, there%26#39;s lots of food u can have or go to Shilin NM after u have freshen up. Not sure if Shilin NM open till 12 midnight but definitely late.

TaiwanDIY can you advice, from Cheryln81 route can we proceed from SML to Allisan? As SML is huge, is it good to engage a taxi/guide to move about? To stay a night each at SML and Allisan would it be sufficient? Overall we have abt 7Days to tour Taiwan as first timer.

Oh yeah, from Alisan can proceed to Taichung County - Toroko Park (1 night) and back to Taipei ? Hope you can give some recommendation of ';NOT TO MISS'; attractions along this route. Tks

From Sun Moon Lake, you either head eastwards to Taroko Gorge / Hualien or head southwards to Alishan. Consider visiting Alishan before Sun Moon Lake and Taroko Gorge OR consider visiting Hualien / Taroko Gorge before Sun Moon Lake and Alishan.

From Alishan %26gt; Sun Moon Lake

First Leg: From Alishan %26gt; Chiayi Railway Station

Get back to Chiayi town by Alishan forest rail or by bus. Trains depart Alishan Station to Chaiyi Railway Station. Fare: NT$399 Travel time: About 4 hrs.

Alishan forest train schedule: https://ticket.ht-alishan.com.tw/schedule.php

Buses depart Alishan at 0910, 1110, 1310, 1510 and 1710 hrs to Chiayi Bus Station. Fare: NT$214 Travel time: About 2.5 hrs. Chiayi %26lt;–%26gt; Alishan bus schedule: http://www.cybus.gov.tw/timetable.jsp

Second Leg: From Chiayi %26gt; Ershuei 二水

Board a TRA train from Chiayi to Ershuei. Fare: NT$72 to NT$86 Travel time: 38~57 mins (depending on type of train)

Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA): new.twtraffic.com.tw/TWRail_EN/index.aspx

TRA trains ticket prices: service.tra.gov.tw/tw/ticketprice/excel.aspx

The railway ticket fares can be found in the Chinese version of website, not the English version.

Third Leg: From Ershuei %26gt; Shueili 水里

Board a TRA train from Ershuei to Shueili. Fare: NT$41 Travel time: About 41 mins.

Fourth Leg: From Shueili %26gt; Sun Moon Lake

Feng Rong (Green Transit) 豐榮客運 buses depart Shueili for Sun Moon Lake. Fare: NT$49 Travel time: About 25 mins. Note the train and bus departure schedules so that you do not miss the train / bus and wait a long time for the next train / bus.

Alternatively, consider hiring a cab to Sun Moon Lake via highway no 21 (winding mountain road). Travel time: About 2 hrs. Forumers who had travelled this shorter route posted cab fares ranging from NT$3000~NT$4000

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can hire a private cab to visit the attractions round Sun Moon Lake. Always negotiate and agree on price before boarding. It can easily take half a day to cover most of these places. Alternatively, purchase the NT$80 day pass for unlimited rides on Nantou bus covering part of the 37 km round-lake route.

Nantou round-lake shuttle bus schedule:

www.sunmoonlake.gov.tw/EN/02001269.aspx

http://www.ntbus.com.tw/5-25.htm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sun Moon Lake to Hualien takes about 4~4.5 hrs car ride, passing Cingjing Farm and Taroko Gorge along the winding mountain route (estimated fare NT$5000~NT$6000). Travel times are approx. and exclude time for sightseeing. Traveling by hired cab can be costly and uncomfortable to some people (motion sickness). The mountain scenery is nice though. Some people prefer to take the more economical, longer but more comfortable route from Sun Moon Lake to Taipei before traveling down the east coast to Hualien / Taroko Gorge.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The “must-see” places in Taroko National Park:

Cingshuei Cliff

Eternal Spring Shrine

Swallow’s Grottos

Tunnel of Nine Turns

Tienhsiang

Baiyang Trail

Cingshuei Cliff (outside Taroko Gorge, along Suao-Hualien coastal highway) between Heren and Chongde is the most spectacular. Heren is about 16 km from Taroko. It’s about 25 mins drive one-way from Taroko to Heren.

Can i check from SML, how do i go to taichung country? I want to go guguan Hotspring.

Is it worth to spend a night there? I try to book a hotel there but i can%26#39;t find any website for hotel. Which is the ideal hotel ( price and location )there? what can i explore there?

my route will be:

Taipei -%26gt; SML-%26gt; taichung country-%26gt; taichung city-%26gt; taipei.

is it ok?

The shortest route from Sun Moon Lake to Guguan would be via Puli to Tianleng (mountain highway no. 21). It seems there is no public bus service linking Puli and Tianleng. Probably need to hire a cab. At Tianleng, you can board the Fongyuan bus to Guguan.

Fongyuan Bus linking Taichung -- Guguan: http://www.fybus.com.tw/data/1/007b.htm

Guguan is Central Taiwan’s most famous hot springs. Many visitors and locals come to Guguan to savor the real ambience of hot springs. Some popular hot spring resorts / hotels include:

Sorry, i getting confuse here....is it very far to travel from SML to Taichung Country? How long is the journey and how much if i take cab there? Then taichung country to city?

Taichung country and city - are they very far??

The suburbs or outlying districts of a city is known as County. In Chinese, it’s called 縣

Counties are generally vast than the city itself. Sun Moon Lake and Puli are in Nantou County. Tianleng is in Taichung County. How far is Taichung city from Taichung County and how far Nantou County is from Taichung County would depend on the exact places you are talking about.

I have not hired a cab from Puli to Tianleng which is expected to take about an hour%26#39;s car ride.

Hi all

Just wondering if there is an easier way to get from Sun Moon lake to Alishan (other than the numerous legs) that have been given by TaiwanDIY above?

I%26#39;m travelling with parents and a baby, so less hazzle would be much preferred.

Hope some of you can give me any suggestion on this.
