Help needed! - Taipei 7D 6N Itinerary in Jan 08
Our date for the trip is nearing and I would appreciate that more advice can be given from all here so that we will not have any hipcups for this trip. Thank you.
Please help to advice and do help to check if the sequence of my itinerary is ok.
Day 1: 21 Jan, Mon
Handsome Hotel is in XMD. You should take Freego bus to XMD.
Day 3: 23 Jan, Wed
Expected sunrise during Dec to Feb period (winter season) is 0630 to 0705 hrs. Waking up at 0330 to 0400 hrs is too early.
Consider taking a taxi from Tomita Farm to Furano Farm. Taxi fare: About NT$150 Travel time: About 30 mins. This would save you some time to include Furano Farm.
Day 4: 24 Jan, Thurs
Take an early morning train to Hualien / Sincheng Station to visit Taroko Gorge. It takes about 2 hrs (Taroko trains) and 3 hrs (Tze Chiang trains) to reach Hualien. Only the slower trains stop at Sincheng Station.
Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA): http://163.29.3.98/TWRail_En/index.aspx
Taroko Gorge (outside of Hualien City) is sited about 25 km north of Hualien city in the county of Hualien. You can take a train to Sincheng Station (before reaching Hualien). Sincheng Station is just 5 km away from Taroko Gorge. Hire a cab at Sincheng Station to tour Taroko Gorge with stops as you desire along the route up to Tienhsiang. Although taxis use fare meters, you can negotiate an agreed price. I do not know how much it will cost as I have not hired a taxi here before.
On your return to Taipei, alight at Jiaosi for a soak in hot spring. There are many hot spring resorts and hotel within a kilometer from Jiaosi Railway Station. The prices here are known to be cheaper than those in Taipei. Many locals come here during the weekends or holidays for a soak.
Day 5: 25 Jan, Fri
Consider a day trip to Jinguashih and Jiufen. Gold Ecological Park in Jinguashih town is a “must-see” if you are interested in the cultural heritage of this rustic old town which was once a bustling copper and gold mining settlement. Jiufen is a quaint village on top of a hill with traditional tea houses. Try the local food / snacks at Jiufen old street. You will find that it is worth the visit.
Visit Keelung Miaokou after Jiufen. On your return from Keelung, alight at Songshan Railway Station. Walk about 5 mins to Wufenpu.
Wufenpu opens from 1600 hrs to 2400 hrs daily, closing an hour earlier on Sundays. From Wufenpu to Raohe Street night market, walk over railway tracks through overhead bridge.
Street map of Houshanpi MRT Station, Wufenpu and Songshan Railway Station: home.trtc.com.tw/INFO92/Lmap.asp?SID=095
Day 6: 26 Jan, Sat
You should try the popular peacock clams and fat fish at the seafood restaurants at Pali Left Bank. It is to the left of the river bank when you alight from the ferry.
Visit Shilin night market on your return from Danshui. Alight at Jiantan MRT Station.
Check Central Weather Bureau website for sunset times in Taipei: http://www.cwb.gov.tw/V5e/index.htm
Day 7: 27 Jan, Sun
Consider visiting Wulai and Pitan Lake (Green Lake) in Xindian. Pitan Lake is just 3 mins walk from the exit of Xindian MRT Station. You can walk across the long suspension bridge, go boating or row a canoe in the lake. NT$100/pax for one hour.
Enjoy your holidays in Taiwan.
Day 1
- If you can%26#39;t make it to the hotel by 18:00, call and tell them you%26#39;ve arrived and are on your way.
- Train tickets for Hualien can be bought at Taipei Railway Station @ MRT Taipei Main Station.
Day 3
- I hope you%26#39;ve got all the timing and transportation right for Tashee Blooming Oasis and Tomita Farm? Furano Farm isn%26#39;t directly accessible by public bus, so do take TaiwanDIY%26#39;s suggestion to take a taxi. We%26#39;d also love to read your review on those places and how you went about it, as there hasn%26#39;t been such a review on the forum as of yet!
Day 5
- If you wish to go to Keelung after Wulai, alight the Wulai bus at MRT Xindian Station and take a bus to Keelung from there.
Day 6
- Keep up with pop star appearances here:
www.g-music.com.tw/event/storesp/storesp.asp
- Sunset in the winter occurs at around 17:00, before 17:30. Please note, depending on the weather, on some days it just gets dark, without a sunset.
- Pop star appearances in XMD are usually in the late morning or in the afternoon.
- Name %26amp; address(es) of the peacock clams mentioned by TaiwanDIY(pls see Aug. 17 post):
tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293910-i9303-k110…
The National Palace Museum is a ';not-to-be-missed'; attraction, IMO. Forumers have written that they were not into museums but were truly impressed by the NPM. (But that%26#39;s not to say absolutely everyone was impressed.)
Linjiang St. NM is a 20-min. walk from Taipei 101. Walk south on Keelung Rd.; it starts near the corner of Keelung Rd./Guangfu S. Rd.
suggest u take the high speed rail for tp-taichung then take a bus to SML, faster that way.HSR now selling non assigned tickets at a lower fare, as it is not usually, full, this choice has been reported to be quite value for money.
for day 3 , safer to pre-arrange a cab prior to trip, some taxis in Taoyuan still do not run by the meter n if u just hail one on the road, they might charge for to n fro journey as the farm is pretty out of the way n the cabbie would probably got to run an empty car back to the city.
Also, for day 3, u have it pretty packed already, don%26#39;t think u should return to taipei, just pay up for the one night fare n the hotel would hold the room for u.
Day4,
try to prebook the train tix online.
I am to arrive in Taipei next monday but am still lost on some details and also the planning for 2 of the days. Will post my updated itinerary later and hope more advice will help me to iron them out out.

Really need to have some answers for the above questions to finish up my 1st Free and Easy Trip. Do appreaciate all the help and advice I can get. Thank you!!
Hi Malthy0800,
Since you%26#39;re taking SQ, you would arrive at Terminal 2 so when you exit the arrival gate you would see a tourist information counter in front of you. You can ask the duty personnel for any last minute advise or can check with your hotel reception. Also very importantly since it%26#39;s your first DIY trip, get some maps from the counter.
Information on Freego(it goes to XMD area) from T2, exit arrival gate(with info counter in front), Go RIGHT and walk you should see a toilet somewhere ahead then Go RIGHT again, walk to the somewhere near the end and LEFT is where all the express bus counters(incld. Freego) are located. Purchase your tickets there and check with the counter staff about arranging pickups for your departure(to keep things simple). When you board the bus, check with the driver if he can drop you off at your hotel or somewhere near.
PS. The MRT gets you to most places or near it. So it%26#39;s quite safe to say that you can get to alot of places with a map in hand and on foot from the MRT stops. ;)
