客運 & trains

Hi

This is my first trip to Taiwan. I am trying to digest a huge chunk of information and need some clarification with regards to transportation.

1)For 客運 buses, do i have to buy the tickets first before boarding or can i just board the bus at any of the designated stopping point like 公車.

2)For trains, if i do not advance book, is it possible to purchase a same day/next available train ticket at the train station itself.

For long distance coaches, you must buy the ticket prior to boarding. The gate agent (or bus driver) will collect the ticket at the door.

For trains, you can buy same day tickets at the station. Only use advance booking if you absolutely must be on that train; or you trip falls on a busy holiday weekend.
