1) The best time to go to the Taipei 101 area would be late afternoon to night, so that you can see it both in the daytime and at night. The Xinyi District is better done in the daytime (so you can actually see what it looks like), but Taipei 101 looks nice at night, with its ';mood lighting'; (that%26#39;s what I call it, hehe)----sometimes purple, sometimes blue, etc.

2) Alight at ';Shengkeng Elementary School'; for Shengkeng old street.

3) As far as I%26#39;m aware, Shifen is a natural waterfall. With nearly 200 natural waterfalls in Taiwan, there is no need to build one la! :-) (Shifen is quite famous, even among local tourists; if it were man-made, I think no one would bother to trek there to see it.)

hahaha. ';mood lighting';?that sounds pretty cool. Does the colors change randomly everynight or is it just multi colored?

Whoa. i watched the shifen waterfall on youtube.com. So tempting to go.............................. but how how.. not enough time if i were to go yeliou, shifen, jiufen, keelung in a day right? From Shifen station, is it possible to go to the waterfall by taxi or bus?

CC, u mentioned Xinyi District, may i know where is that? thanks!

The exterior lighting of Taipei 101 is of a different color on different nights that I%26#39;ve seen it; it is not multi-colored. And on holidays or special occasions, it expresses itself, but sometimes so subtlely that if you don%26#39;t look, you won%26#39;t notice it. (Don%26#39;t want to reveal too much! ^_^) That%26#39;s why I say Taipei 101 has ';personality';. ;-)

The Xinyi DIstrict is the huge piece of prime real estate where Taipei 101, the Taipei World Trade Center, the Grand Hyatt, NYNY, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi, Eslite Bldg., Warner Village Cinemas (it has a new name now), etc. are located.

I think it would be quite packed to do Yehliu, Shifen, Jiufen and Keelung----not impossible, but too rushed for you to enjoy yourself. It would be more relaxing to do the Pingshi Line (an old train line for nostalgic train buffs) as one trip, stopping at the different points of interest (Pingshi, Jingtong, etc.) without feeling rushed.

Nutty posted the Rueifang-Shifen train timetable here:

Don%26#39;t miss the post I made about the ';wooden postcards'; that you can mail in Jingtong! :-)

I%26#39;m going shenkeng tofu street too.

CC, i believe it is not too far from muzha station, so I%26#39;m going to just take a cab.

Do people just flag down a cab or is there anything i should be aware of when taking a cab.

is it generally easy to get a cab?

oh CC, then how abt doing shifen, jiufen %26amp; keelung on 1 day? would it be too rush as well??

Dragonking, unless it%26#39;s raining and we%26#39;re desperate, we usually pass up the smaller, older-looking cabs and wait for a shiny new cab to come along before flagging it down, hehe... Thus, most cabs are shiny and new. :-) It%26#39;s very easy to flag down a cab in Taipei except when it%26#39;s raining. It can also be harder during rush hour or when the day-to-night shift takes place. During this time, you may think the cabbies are ignoring you, but they%26#39;re actually returning to their cab companies.

To give you an idea of the distance from MRT Muzha to Shenkeng, they are 12 bus stops apart.

Nin05, I think it%26#39;s okay to do Shifen, Jiufen and Keelung in a day, since you don%26#39;t plan to spend a lot of time exploring the Pingshi Line.

Thks, CC. I think taking a cab sounds good to me.

maybe if time allows then can explore further along the ping-shi line...

Hi,

I%26#39;d suggest you do Shifen First and then head back for Jioufen. Note the Taipei Keelung - Keelung Rueifang - Rueifang Shifen - Shifen - Rueifang - Train schedule Than plan your route, the timing is all important unless you are cabbing or driving.

Also , it gets dark pretty quick and if there is rain on the horizon, It gets darker even earlier

It%26#39;s the Jinguashih (NOT Pingshi), day pass----only for people planning to go to Jinguashih (Gold Ecological Park). For NT100, you get admission to Jinguashih + 4 bus rides within the Rueifang-Jiufen-Jinguashih area. (Without the pass, Jinguashih admission alone costs NT100.) The pass can be bought at Rueifang Railway Station and at Jinguashih.

I believe it%26#39;s Pingshi that%26#39;s known for sky lanterns, though you will probably also see them elsewhere along the Pingshi Line (if tighter restrictions by the government aren%26#39;t in place yet).
