Hi everyone, my family is arriving in Kaohsiung International airport around 6:30 pm, what would be the best way to get to Chiayi from the airport and how? If by train, where is the train station, which train, and how long is the travel time?
Thanks in advance, I hope the TRA will publish train schedule on their site.

Sorry, I want to rephrase my question.

Thank you TaiwanDIY for the info.
For the Sun Moon Lake-Hualien leg: Would it be easier to just return to Chiayi and take an express bus,if any to Hualien? Getting on/off several buses might be a hassle for my small children. What would be the easiest, least expensive way?
Thank you again.
no direct bus crossing the central ridge, I , too have two children, so always end up travelling the expensive way.
How about going back to Kaohsiung and taking the train to Hualien?
Or go to Taichung and take the bus?
How are these options in terms of expenses and time?
train KS-HL takes about 4-7hrs , so unless u want to see KS n Taitung, would be faster to go via HSR to TP, then Taroko rail.
Travelling thru the Central Mountains from Sun Moon Lake to Hualien via winding mountain roads by hired cab can be costly and uncomfortable to some people (motion sickness). The mountain scenery is nice though.
You may want to consider a longer but more comfortable route as follows:
First Leg: From Sun Moon Lake %26gt; Taichung HSR Station
Nantou (南投客運) buses depart Sun Moon Lake to Taichung HSR Station. Fare: NT$200 Travel time: About 2 hrs.

Fares vary depending travel on weekdays or weekends / holidays/eve of public holidays. Travel time: About 53 to 58 mins.

Third Leg: From Taipei %26gt; Hualien
From Taipei Main Station, board a railway train to Hualien. Fare: NT$287 to NT$445 Travel time: About 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs (depending on type of train)
