Hi ppl,
I tried to book the Alishan railway but tickets are already sold out. Anyone know if there is a coach from Taipei directly to Alishan? Or from Chaiyi to Alishan? How much is the ticket? Is the frequency very often or there is only one or two trips per day?
Thanks in advance!

Alishan drivers on strike as they say line is unsafe.
Looks like the Administration won this round:
Alishan cherry blossom festival to open today
Meanwhile, the Alishan mountain railway resumed services after a two-day suspension for an overhaul to ensure its safety prior to the opening of the cherry blossom festival.
The first of the three trains that ply the route, pulling five colorfully decorated carriages, left Chiayi station at 9 a.m. on its run up the mountain. Nearly all the 120 tickets had been sold, with only five empty seats.

Hi Calicocat and nuttyazn,
Thank you for the information!
hihi,
i have already booked %26amp; paid my alishan tickets for 3 Apr. According to the yahoo news, are we suppose to change to bus tickets? or that we can based on the chinapost news and go ahead with our trip?
I hope is not as dangerous as it is said.
u bought the train tickets?? hmm.. i thought non-taiwanese are not able to buy the ticketS?? i read it from some other threads ?
Hi.
I used to live in Chiayi and have been Alishan for several times. We drove a car everytime we went there.
I think it%26#39;d be better for you to rent a car.
There was an accident on Alishan railway that killed several people years ago. (How many ones i do not remember). As i watched the news about the recent situations on TV the other day, i don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s safe anymore.
However, i don%26#39;t suggest taking a coach as well since it takes about two hours from Chiayi to Alishan. And that%26#39;s by car. Think it might be longer by coach. In addition, it%26#39;s easier to feel carsick on the coach. If u take a coach from Taipei to Alishan, there%26#39;s a great chance that u%26#39;ll get sick of it before u get there.
you can now purchase train tickets using a foreign credit card already. They have already deducted the amt from my card in fact and i%26#39;ve gotten my confirmation no. Plus im going during the cherry blossom season so alot of the tickets are almost sold out, so i dun wan to miss out when im there.
for renting a car, can we get someone to drive us? coz we do not have a license. I tried to ask the minshu lady and she told us for 2 pax can just take the chiayi bus up, she sae private transport is not worth it for 2.
is the alishan train still transporting now? i dunno if i shld or if i can refund the tickets now. anyone know?
The trains are back in service especially because of the Sakura-Cherry Blossom season.
