If you miss boarding the bus in Dayuling and need to stay in a hostel, you have to walk to Guanyuan (about 4.5km away or about 1 hr walk). You can stay in Kuan Yun Youth Hostel in Guanyuan (Tel: 04-25991173). I do not know how much they charge. If you do not want to walk, you can opt to stay with the locals in Dayuling as they welcome visitors. The room rate is around NT$800/night for a double room.

HAPPY!

this is the question and answer im looking for!

finally!

im bringing my family + grandfather to taipei in july..

intend to set aside 1 whole day for maybe SML + fengjia nite mkt.

elderly cannot take too long journey rides..so been trying to find the time take n for the various train rides from taipei to taizhong n options to go frm the trains in taizhong to SML.. then to fengjia..maybe via qing jing or something..

so far only know the price n time for the trains from taipei to taizhong.

fastest is via HSR.. abt 50 mins.. but the $ is double too 700NT 1 way..

means now if i travel frm the HSR taizhong to SML or from SML to fengjia need 2 hrs + each ar...

if i hire cabby tours..will be faster?

or should i change my itinery to taroke instead of SML..?

The “must-see” places in Taroko National Park:

1) Eternal Spring Shrine

2) Swallow’s Grottos

3) Tunnel of Nine Turns

4) Tienhsiang

5) Baiyang Trail

6) Cingshuei Cliff (outside Taroko Gorge, along Suao-Hualien coastal highway) between Heren and Chongde is the most spectacular. Heren is about 16 km from Taroko. It’s about 25 mins drive one-way from Taroko to Heren.

If you hire a taxi as most forumers do, there is no problem even for elderly persons to travel around in Taroko Gorge for sightseeing. Taxi drivers usually bring visitors to the most frequented tourist spots (first 4 of above). Just inform the taxi driver to stop wherever you want to sightsee and take some photos along the most traveled 19km Taroko Gorge stretch of mountain road (Taroko to Tienhsiang). Watch your steps and do be cautious of falling rocks. The risk is higher on rainy days. Wenshan hot spring (about 2 km from Tienhsiang) has been closed due to a fatal incident of falling rocks falling onto people enjoying hot spring bath at the riverside.

Hualien buses depart Hualien to Tienhsiang with some making a stop at Taroko National Park HQ in Taroko (Eastern gateway of East-West Cross Island Highway). The buses will not be making stops along the Taroko Gorge until it reaches Tienhsiang (terminal stop).

When in SML, I strongly recommend staying at Laurel Villa. I and my GF had a very unfirgetable time there, really felt like home away from home. Also maybe you can check out our 7D6N Itinerary at tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293913-i9546-k161…

Hi,

The buses at Taichung is pay by easylink card type or by coins?

From Taichung to SML, is there any buses that depart from somewhere near Fengjia NM cos I stay beside it. The railway station looks very far away. For the Nantou bus, is it just outside the HSR station? Is it hard to locate? And what%26#39;s the last bus leaving SML?

Public buses in Taichung city accept fare payment by Taichung Easycard (臺中e卡通) or coins/cash. I understand that with the Taichung Easycard, NT$15 is deducted for bus journey up to 8km. If pay by coins/cash, it’s NT$20. For longer trips, if the bus fare exceeds NT$40, only NT$40 is deducted. If pay by coins/cash, you have to pay the actual fare.

You probably have to take a bus from Fengjia NM area to Taichung Railway Station (30-mins bus journey) to board Nantou buses to SML.

Nantou Bus: http://www.ntbus.com.tw/032.htm

Renyou buses also serve Taichung %26gt; SML route.

Renyou Bus: http://www.rybus.com.tw/travel.pdf

The bus stand for Nantou buses is outside the Taichung HSR Station in Wurih. Ask if in doubt. Taiwanese people are helpful and friendly.

The last Nantou bus departs SML at 1825 hrs to Taichung. Fare: NT$200 Travel time: About 2 hours

Sun Moon Lake: www.sunmoonlake.gov.tw/EN/02000479.aspx

Thanks for your help. For the Taichung Easycard, where can I purchase it?

Taichung Easycard can be purchased at the various bus companies’ station ticket windows and some convenience stores. Cost per card (adult) is NT$300 (NT$200 stored value and NT$100 deposit).

Taichung Easycard: http://www.tcbus.com.tw/service/top.html (In Chinese)

Thanks. Sorry a bit confused over something.

Are Wurih Taichung HSR Station and Taichung Railway Station at the same location?
