After Kaoshiung, need some help.

Hi I will be arriving at Kaoshiung at 04.April midnite, intend to spend 3 days there including Kenting.( is it too much )

After which I am still in dreamland.This is my 1st time in Taiwan.

I intend to visit Tainan and Alishan.

Where should I stay, Tainan or Chiayi, taking into cosideration, location, time saved etc.

I will be flying off at Taipei on Sunday 12.April.

Advices will be most appreciated.

How about spending whole the day in Tainan then staying at Chaiyi that night.

I suggest spending the night in Tainan. Many of the best street food stalls are only open at night, not to mention Tainan has better shopping, night market, and lodging options than Chiayi.

Besides, Tainan is close enough to Chiayi that you can catch the 8:00 a.m. Tze-Chiang train and make it to Chiayi train staion for the morning forest railway train with time to spare. I know because that was what I did last time I went to Alishan.

Tainan is different type of city compare Taipei and Kaohsiung, the living style will be slower then these metros and this means that Tainan will be much relax and a lot of delicious foods there. As for hotel at Tainan this depends your budget, I stayed Takatama Hotel just infront Tainan Raiways Station is very convenient in terms of location, but room size is small but with breakfast. Around NT$1200/night.

Try to find or ask the the famous foods there. 周氏蝦卷, 担仔面 etc.

Alright I will stay in Tainan, is 1 day enough for Alishan, to and fro.

Also if time permits, on the way to Taipei, maybe stop over at ChangHua to pay homage to the giant Buddha.

apache, you are coming during the cherry blossom season in Alishan, would suggest you stay a night in Alisahn, then detour to Fenchihu the next day then go back to Taipei after that.

Yes, I agree that Tainan is a better choice over Chiayi.One could take the HSR to Chiayi the next morning.

安平古堡 near to 安平港, nothing special but selling the 蝦片 prawn cracker or sotong cracker quite nice. The 周氏蝦卷 original shop is around there. 秋荗yuan and 億載金城 also near this area but need transport.
