i went through some threads on driving, but will still like to get some advice.
we are planning to go to taroko gorge and hopefully explore further south from hualien to taitung. How is the driving like ? We have driven in the states and also in New zealand. When its mentioned that the roads are winding and mountaneous, is it like in NZ ?
Will it be better to take public transport to hualien and drive from there to taitung ? If so, can we do it as a day trip from hualien ? if we were to drive from taipei to hualien, how long will it take. Is it difficult to drive to taroko gorge ?
Lastly, can i get a rough idea of how much per day is the car rental, including all the insurance that we have to pay.

tpe-HL takes about 3-4 hrs,driving to Taroko is easy, it is the segment after that where the road narrows down that is difficult.
HL to Taidung another 3-5 hrs.
Taipei to Hualien is not an easy drive. Lots of heavy truck traffic, reckless drivers, and winding narrow roads with little shoulder to pull over.
Hualien to Taitung is a much more pleasant drive IMHO. Roads are wide and straight, with much less truck traffic.
Car rental in Taiwan is quite expensive. It will cost around 2600 NTD all in per day.

In the unlikley event that the plane was parked at a T1 gate, you can still walk to terminal 2 and meet your friends as the 2 terminals are physically connected.

The only notable thing missing will be the cherry blossoms, everything else should be available year round (of course, whether you get to see the sunrise depends on the weather for that day).
And may I know when is the cherry blossom season in Alishan? In Autumn, can we see any autumn foliage?

Sakura season is in Spring, usually between March and early April.
I don%26#39;t believe there is autumn foliage in Alishan. Due to the high altitude, the forest is made up of mostly evergreen trees that never shed their leaves.
Maple leaves could be sighted in late autumn.

Yes cingjing farm is a farm but they also provide accomodation. You can go green green grassland where there%26#39;s sheep show on wkend managed by New Zealand folks. The sheeps will roam freely.
I juz went to ChingJing last Nov. I took the e-go bus. Bus fare to Chingjing - twn $2600 (2 pax) on sun. No need to change bus at Puli - fuss free. Understand that sat bus is more ex.
Book the ticket in advance in the website and they will send u a form to fill up (state payment when board bus). Pls email back to them after filling up. Payment made when u board the bus.

觀星園景觀山莊. No deposit reqd. Juz email to them. It%26#39;s located on top of ChingJing, nice view. Only twn1620 for double bed. Suggest that you stay 2 nights in chingjing. Can go for Hehuan san - beautiful scenary.
The boss at Starry can provide free pickup and dropoff at green green grassland. Ask them to plan your itinerary. They provided free steamboat dinner for foreigners.
Since Starry was quite high in Chingjing, i decided to stay another nite near the busy area, 7-11, starbucks. So I also stayed at 清境愛力家生活村 (Energy). However, i would suggest that you stay in http://www.shangrila-resort.com.tw/intro.htm. It%26#39;s next to Energy. The decor is quite nice.

I%26#39;ve emailed starry few days ago, but no reply from them. The owner at Sun Moon lake guesthouse I%26#39;m staying in, says that probably cus I emailed in ENGLISH, and they can%26#39;t understand that.

My husband called them this evening, and since this place is highly recommended by the boss at Laurel Villa @ Sun Moon Lake, we decide to go ahead :)
Will there be a train from Taipei to Cingjing? I suppose taking train is faster too? Well, taking trains will be one of the highlights for our kids, so we want to take trains whenever it%26#39;s possible, hehe...

No train to cingjing. Only bus transportation.
You need to pre-book the ego bus. Hope u hv a nice stay at chingjing! I like this place very much. Can see a lot of sea clouds.

I will be going to Taipei 11/4 to 15/4 with my sister. This is my 1st free and easy trip in Taipei. My hotel is located in Ximentin. Anybody is going to Taipei that time. How should I plan my trip? I want to go to Fung Jia and Silin night markets, anybody has an idea how to get there from Ximentin? Is is possible to visit Koushiong early in the morning and come back to Ximentin at night. Just checking if anyone knows the closest hotel in the West District to the national museum of fine arts.The address I am trying to be near is Chong-Ching Road, Situn district.Not sure if Galeria hotel is the best option for me?
It does not look like the Muesuem is too far from the train station.I would think any hotel in the area will do.
