King Of Thrift - Taiwan! Tv Show..

All experts %26amp; forumers,

While searching for useful info to assist a forumer, I was surprised to find the Singapore-made tv prog she mentioned already up on YouTube!

This is a tv series that bring viewers to bargains- for those thrifty ones on budget.

The ';之出城记'; extended the series by bringing the idea of budget spending to country overseas. These uploads I found are abt Taiwan.

I don%26#39;t know the person who uploaded these vids - though I think she was certainly fast, as the series was a recent telecast!

To read what I think of the series, here%26#39;s the thread:

Thanks for sharing, TA. For me, it%26#39;s interesting to watch Singapore TV!

In the first video, at 1:43, you can see Rainbow Hotel (orange bldg. on the corner) and Watsons (blue bldg. on the corner) in the background. :D

U%26#39;re welcome, CC.

I%26#39;m sure U%26#39;ll find Singapore tv entertaining - n indeed U hv!

TA :-)

In fact there is another singapore tv show about taiwan. It is sponsored by Taiwan Tourism Board if i remember correctly. There hosts are 莫晓玲and another femaler i forgot her name. The showing time is Sunday noon time.

Correct, Tcs80.

That show was a series with less than 7 episodes. It was telecast way before this King of Thrift.

Currently there%26#39;s one tour game show - also on Taiwan now.

Riviera Hotel vs. Brother Hotel

Hi, can anyone please tell me which hotel is more convenient to most of the tourist attractions? In Taipei this weekend and looking to make the most of my time!!!

Riviera Hotel vs. Brother Hotel

Hi

Brother is in town next to MRT stop.

Riviera is about 8 mins walk to Yuanshan MRT stop-not tiring in this comfortable weather.

Just behind Suangcheng St - The war zone - full of pubs e.t.c.

I believe both hotels have won awards e.t.c.

In Taipei once you are at the MRT stop-most places are within your reach.

Freego Bus from Taoyuan Airport to Royal Castle Hotel

1. Where do I buy the freego bus tickets and how much does it cost?

2. Does the freego transport stop at outside Royal Castle?

3. When returning from Royal Castle to Taoyuan airport, where do I buy the freego bus tickets?

Freego Bus from Taoyuan Airport to Royal Castle Hotel

1) From the Freego bus counter in the Arrival hall (Look for the bus counters-follow the signs)

2)Yes

3)Pay the bus driver

shipping postage place?

There is a post office just across TS Hotel. The GPO is at the Corner of Zhongxiao and Zhonghua Road (Ximenting area)

thanks for ur reply..

sorry i am getting a little mixed up..

what%26#39;s the difference between

Taiwan Post post.gov.tw/post/鈥 and OCS Courier http://www.ocs.com.tw/

And the post office u mentioned across TS Hotel, i just need to tell them that i want to ship to singapore using ocs courier? or do i have to bring to the courier office instead?

thanks

You take the Parcel to the Post office, they will weigh it and tell you the Postage.

OCS can pick up the Parcel from the Hotel-This is a Courier company - They Deliver Door to Door

The weighing machine at TS is quite accurate.

Forumer at HWZ - coldkey posted yesterday:

Shipping

Boxes max 30kg can be purchase for NT100 at the post office and i managed to squeeze ard 50 books and ship them by sea for NT490. The shipment has not arrive yet so I don%26#39;t know how long it will take.

thanks for sharing..

oh, the price is really reasonable for 30kg~

do update us the time u took to receive it when the parcel arrives. tq

I think forumer made a mistake in the rates e.t.c.

Anyway, you can check for the rate here for surface mail:

  • Transportation

May I know whether it is advisable to purchase bus/mrt ticket for 2 days (like those in Singapore-ezlink card)to enable us to travel on our own. Places to visit will be tamshui/ fisherman%26#39;s wharf, wulai, green lake, lungshan temple, tzu-shih temple-Sanhsia, keelung, yehliu and other night markets. Thank you.

    Transportation

At any MRT station%26#39;s information you can buy easy card-悠遊卡,it%26#39;s NT500,can be use for bus,MRT,Train commuter, and ferry in Damsui.

It%26#39;s refundable and with the card you can get 20 percent low for the fare.

    Transportation

Easy card can%26#39;t be used for the areas out of Taipei.

Thanks. How long is the validity? That%26#39;s mean I cannot use to go to Sanhsia, keelung and yehliu, rite?

Since U%26#39;ll be travelling by MRT n some buses here n there, buying n using a Youyoucard is good.

When U return the card(s) to any MRT station counter, U%26#39;ll get whatever amount unused + deduction of a penalty of TWD20 for hving each card less than 3 months..

    TA :-)

    Hi TA,

Youyoucard can be used outside Taipei? Thanks.

    easy card=悠遊卡(youyoucard)

    Berries,

Here are places U listed which will accept payment via EasyCard (悠遊卡 YouyouCard):

    • Danshui

    1. Bus to Fisherman Wharf

    2. Ferry to Pa Li waterfront

    • MRT travel

U can do a search in forums for details where EasyCard can be used.

I doubt such info will be helpful in yr case. I%26#39;ll prefer to do this:

Whenever unsure - simply, ask. :-)

Ask the driver. Ask the ticket counter staff. Ask fellow commuters waiting in line..

Btw, when a form of transport accepts EasyCard payment, the EasyCard logo will be well displayed..

IMHO, to have such info like ';where in/out of Taipei can use EasyCard';, even printed out n carried with the traveller will not be helpful.

I find it faster, more practical %26amp; effective to ask whenever I%26#39;m unsure.

    TA :-)

Card sensors were installed in Taipei, Keelung, Jongli, Banciao,Wanhua and Shulin. I am not sure but Songshan should also be covered in this. You can check on it.

Remember Reuifang does not have one so cant use it for that sector .

Thanks for all the info. Have a good day! Cheerio!!

    Questions on Kaohsiung Itinerary

Hihi again, would really appreciate some advice on my Kaohsiung itinerary put together so far...

Day 1: Reach Taoyuan Airport at 3pm- take HSR to Zuoying Station - transfer to Kaohsiung Railway Station - Check into King%26#39;s Town Hotel - head back to Zuoying for dinner at Liu’s Pickled Cabbage Hot Pot (刘家酸白菜火锅) - Liu He NM

1)Is there a direct bus I can take after dinner at Zuoying to get to Liu He NM? Or is the only route (other than cab) to take the TRA railway train from Zuoying Railway Station back to KS Railway Station, then transfer to buses 12,52,56,100,301,69,71,2,60,248, to Dayuanhuan stop?

Day 2: Cijin - Lunch at 万三海产小吃部 - Tianhou Temple at Cihou – Cijin Straits – Cape Café – Dream Mall – Xin Jue Jiang – Urban Spotlight

2)How should I get to Dream Mall from Gushan Ferry Pier, after coming back from Cijin?

Is there a KRT station near Gushan Ferry Pier?

3)What is the shortest way to travel from Dream Mall to Xin Jue Jiang?

4)Is Xin Jue Jiang and Urban Spotlight within walking distance?

Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance!!! =)

    Questions on Kaohsiung Itinerary

    A1,

Liu He NM is near the MRT Formosa B.station, only 5 mins wlk.

    A2,

it needs a 5~10 mins walk to MRT siziwan station.there %26#39;s a Dearm Mall shuttle at MRT Kaysuian.

    A3,

Take the MRT to MRT Central Park station.

    A4,

    yes,it%26#39;s walkable.

    Questions on Kaohsiung Itinerary

    1) Board KRT train at R16 (Zuoying THSR Station) to R10 (Formosa Boulevard Station -- see Dome of Light at ticket concourse), use exit 1 or 11 to Liu He Night Market.

    2) At Cijin ferry station, board bus 35 passing through harbor tunnel to R6 (Kaisyuan Station) Bus frequency: every half an hour. Fare: NT$12 Travel time: About 35~40 mins. Board the free shuttle bus at R6 (Kaisyuan Station) exit 3 to Dream Mall OR walk about 15 mins to Dream Mall.

    Free Mall shuttle buses: www.dream-mall.com.tw/traffic/index.asp

    3) Take the free shuttle bus at the rear of Dream Mall OR walk about 15 mins to R6 (Kaisyuan Station). Board KRT train to R9 (Central Park Station), use exit 2 to Xin Jue Jiang and Urban Spotlight.

    4) Xin Jue Jiang and Urban Spotlight are about 5 mins, walking distance apart, across a big road traffic junction.

thanks a lot for your advice!! have a much clearer idea now!

Hi, have some additional questions I would like to ask:

    1) Besides Liu He NM, is Guang Hua Tourists%26#39; NM worth going? since it is a tourists night market, are the prices reasonable?

    2) How shld i get to Guang Hua NM from Urban Spotlight? and also from near Zuoying after dinner on 1st day? becuz have not decided exactly which day to go to this NM..

    3) Can give me the directions to Sanfonzon Speciality Street? understand there seems to be a lot of chinese medical halls on the street, other than that, is it worth going? and are the shops open early in the morning? becuz I have a free morning on Day 3 of trip, before we check out of hotel and travel back to Taipei.

    Thanks a lot! =)

    1) Guang Hua Tourist Night Market is similar to most other night markets, so are the prices.

    …kcg.gov.tw/specstreet/english/12/index.htm

    2) Kaohsiung Bus 72 goes to Guang Hua Tourist Night Market. Board bus 72 at Kaohsiung Railway Station or outside R9 (Central Park KRT Station).

Kaohsiung Bus 72: http://www.khbus.gov.tw/KHWeb/Index.jsp?pg=p5 (Select bus 72 to see detailed route map) Fare: NT$12

    3) Sanfonzon Specialty Street (Sanfong Central Street Shopping Area) has many Chinese medical halls and shops selling grocery goods. It is within walking distance from Kaohsiung Railway Station.
